About Unfathomed
We've explored more of the Moon's surface than our own ocean floor.
The story
99.999% of the deep seafloor remains unseen. That's not just a knowledge gap. We can't protect what we haven't observed.
The bigger issue is access. A handful of wealthy countries own the tools. 40% of humanity lives on coastlines. Most can't afford the equipment to study their own waters.
Unfathomed exists to close that gap: AI for species identification, open data infrastructure, affordable monitoring hardware, and training for coastal communities. All open-source, all free to use.
Open by default
Everything is open. Models go on Hugging Face. Training data is public. API specs are public. Hardware designs will be Creative Commons. If it's ocean science, it shouldn't be behind a paywall.
Industry users pay for compute and priority support. The science itself is free.
